Fighting for Film with Yuri Marmerstein
An immersive action-movement workshop for actors, stunt performers, and physical artists
Step into the world of believable and dynamic on-camera combat with this Fighting for Film class led by Yuri Marmerstein: professional acrobat, movement teacher, and working SAG-AFTRA stunt performer in film and TV (credits include Desert Dawn (2025), Stuntgirl, and The Last Story of David Allen).
This hands-on session blends physical discipline with cinematic technique to help actors safely and convincingly execute fight choreography tailored for the camera. Drawing on Yuri’s diverse training background (from acrobatics and martial arts to capoeira and gymnastics) and his experience teaching physical skills at every level, you’ll gain practical tools to elevate your screen presence and action performance.
What You’ll Learn
Screen-safe striking mechanics: punches, kicks, and movement that read on camera without compromising safety
Partner work basics: distancing, timing, and non-verbal communication essential for believable interactions
Selling and reacting: learning how to “receive” a hit with intention and nuance that serves character and story
Choreography fundamentals: building short fight sequences with rhythm and flow.
Camera awareness: understanding angles and performance choices that look great on film
Why This Matters
On-screen fights are about storytelling, not just physicality. This class gives you the confidence to perform action in a way that directors, stunt coordinators, and casting professionals trust, enhancing your versatility as a working actor.
No prior martial arts experience required! Only commitment to training with focus and professionalism.
